Black Star Diopside

Also called the “Star of India,” Diopside is an important mineral for rock forming in igneous and metamorphic rock. Composed of calcium magnesium silicate, the rays of the star are made by needle-like inclusions. As rays of light hit the inclusions, the light that is reflected back produces an asterism (star effect).
